Syllabus, November 7
WHAT EVIDENCE DO WE SEE OF THE PURITANS' heritage in our daily American lives? From the grade reports and New Trier's vigorous work-ethic to our public, moral excoriation of both presidential candidates, how does the Puritans' experience model our modern reality?
MONDAY
- Starting by reviewing the google doc and your novel choices. We will then turn our attention to "Model of Christian Charity" You will be completing both the vocabulary and the summary exercises that are hotlinked on the following interactive document: click here!
- Complete both the summary exercise and the vocabulary exercise in the aforementioned link. Due Wednesday.
TUESDAY
- In the Library to begin researching your three novels. You will be looking into: a) your author, both biography and theme's explored in her writing; b) the novel, what it is about both in terms of plot and theme, and; c) the critical reception (reviews) both of your author and her work. All three of these will be reported out for all three books, again in a google doc.
- Begin entering information into the new google document. Due Monday.
WEDNESDAY
- Finishing the Pilgrim documentary we started last week.
- HW: Reading the Vowell selection and completing your junior theme google doc.
THURSDAY
- No school for parent-teacher conferences.
- HW: Read the selection from The Wordy Shipmates by Sarah Vowell. As you read, pay particular attention to organizational structure, how she shifts in form (from narrative to expository) and in evidence (from primary source sermon to pop culture song) and so on.
FRIDAY
- No school for parent-teacher conferences.
- HW: Same as Thursday.
