Freshmen English

How does one become the person you are today? What is the hero journey, and how does it shape identity? Students practice critical reading, thinking, and writing skills while examining various literary forms—including the canonical epic poem, Homer’s Odyssey.

 

Sophomore English

What shapes us into the people we become, and to what extant can we control that process of becoming? Are we the creators of our identities, or merely the mirror of larger forces at work? Students explore the individual in social context, and the way in which we become who we are. 

 

Myth & Mind

What makes life meaningful and lived fully? Can storytelling make us better? These students delve into humanity's collective literary history and subconsciousness, analyzing canonical stories and the way people construct meaning and find purpose.
