Syllabus for week of 9/3, Week 2

Monday

• No school for Labor Day.

Tuesday

• Short reading quiz on The Color of Water.
• Write summary for four sections within last week's article, the comparison between living conditions of black Chicagoans between 1960s and today. Due Wednesday.

Wednesday 

• Discussion of The Color of Water. How are Ruth and James' stories particularly American in nature? We will start by finding examples from the story, IYOW with page numbers, on a t-chart. We will then go to small groups, introduce names, "An American is _______" statements, and then share examples and keep notes on your ven-diagram.
• No homework for holiday.

Thursday

• No school for Rosh Hashana

Friday

• Class discussion on why James and Ruth are particularly American.
• Introduction to the parallel lives exercise. Prewriting homework over the weekend, and due Monday.
