Syllabus for week of October 20
LAST WEEK finished to documentary on Miller's writing of our play, and have also read through and including act three of the play. We also began to read folktales from the Puritan times.
Monday
- Reviewing the National Geographic 'interactive" site on the Salem witch trials. You should read through the experience, as well as through the Q and A between students and the Salem expert. We will also read through Mary Warren's testimony the historical sources related to the actual trials.
- HW: Finish reading the trial transcripts from the actual Salem witch trials.
Tuesday
- Quiz on act three. Afterwords, we will return to the pre-colonial folktales in this packet. up to the providence story of the shoe maker, Richard Goldsmith, who is struck down by lightening while indoors, at a Bible meeting.
- HW: Continue reading from this handout, up to page 24 (the actual story of Giles Corey). Read the first half of act four.
Wednesday
- Today we will continue with folktales, reading as a class all about ghosts and divine judgements (up to page 31 in class).
- Read the second half of act four.
Thursday
- Today we will begin a reader's theater of act four.
- HW: Read up to the top of page 38 in our folktales packet.
Friday
- Continuing with our reader's theater of act four.
- HW: Reading a selection from Sarah Vowell's The Wordy Shipmates.
