Syllabus for week of October 6
LAST WEEK we have read the first act of Arthur Miller's play The Crucible, and watched the first 30 minutes of a documentary on the writing of the play. Everyone should have turned in their revision of the Indian literature essay.
Monday
- Pop quiz on act one of the play. We will then continue the documentary on Miller and his professional and personal relationship with famous director Elia Kazan, entitled None Without Sin.
- HW: The act one crossword is due tomorrow. If you are behind on the reading, tonight is your chance to catch up. Also tonight, if you haven't paid for your field trip, do so. Tonight's your last chance to do that. We will begin reading selections of pre-colonial folktales in this packet.
Tuesday
- Small group analysis of act one, followed by work on vocabulary/crossword.
- HW: Read up to page 19 in your script, up to, "Proctor was a farmer in his middle thirties."
Wednesday
- Not with us on the field trip? You should report to class and read the following selection from the novel, Native Son. You will need to take an objective assessment on this section in the testing center on Monday or Wednesday of next week.
- Begin reading act two, this time up to page 57, when Mary Warren exits, leaving Elizabeth and Proctor alone.
Thursday
- Reading theater: pairing off as best we can by boy and girl, and interpreting page 57 thru 59.
- HW: Finish reading act two.
Friday
- No school today or Monday.
- HW: You can expect a pop quiz on act two, this one based upon quotes.
