SYLLABUS FOR WEEK OF APRIL 20
WE BEGAN ELLISON'S masterpiece last week, following the Invisible Man on his journey from Trueblood's sharecropping cabin, into the Golden Day brothel, to the College's chapel and expulsion and all the way north to Harlem. Also, every student met with Mr. Easton and discussed a revision of their research paper. The final meetings will be complete by Monday afternoon.
Monday
- Short lecture on chapter ten of IM, how Ellison uses sensory detain on both literal and figurative levels. We'll then listen to the first ten pages of chapter ten, taking notes on the plot level of meaning and the more interpretive level that Ellison crafts.
- HW: Finish reading chapter ten and eleven for class on Thursday. Plan on using library time to complete research.
Tuesday
- In Library to work with Mr. Garneau on final research, revision, and peer editing.
- HW: You should have read through page 160 (chapter eleven) in IM by class on Thursday.
Wednesday
- In Library to work with Mr. Garneau on final research, revision, and peer editing.

Thursday
- The first day of class being split into two groups. One group will report to the RWC for revision and peer editing of their research papers. The other will stay in 355 for discussion of Invisible Man.
- HW: Read chapter 12 of IM. Research revisions will be due starting Tuesday, 4/28.
Friday
- Class split into two groups. The second batch of research groups will report to the RWC for revision of their junior research papers, either with the available tutors, or with other members of research groups. Students who were in the RWC yesterday will meet with Mr. Easton in 355 to discuss chapter 10 and 11 of IM.
- HW: Read chapter 13-14 of IM for Monday.
