Syllabus, October 17

FINISHING WRITING CONFERENCES THIS WEEK.  I will begin collecting revisions this Tuesday, the 18th. Remember, your new copy should go atop the old draft, the one with my written comments upon it. We are also completing a reader's theater of Miller's play.

MONDAY

  • Day two of reader's theater. We will continue reading Act 1 from where we left off on Friday.
  • Finish reading Act 1 for class on Tuesday.

TUESDAY

  • Reading the puritan girl's diary in "Puritans & Protest," as well as the essay prior to it, in which we discover that this primary source diary is, in fact, a forgery. We will watch the first 5 minutes of "None Without Sin," a documentary on the relationship between Arthur Miller and Elia Kazan.
  • Reading the first ten pages of the "American Legend" selection in your packet for class on Thursday.

WEDNESDAY

  • NO SCHOOL for PSAT
  • HW: Read the first 10 pages of American Legend: The Colonial Period in your literature packet.

THURSDAY

  • Quick reading quiz on last night's reading. We will begin work on an Act 1 crossword, and then shifting to our documentary on the play.
  • HW: Begin reading Act 2, up to the exit of MARY WARREN: Good night. Disatisfied, uncertain of herself, she goes out.

FRIDAY

  • Readers theater for 1/2 the class, documentary for the second 1/2 of class.
  • HW:  Read act three over the weekend.
