Syllabus for Week of October 28

Monday

• Today we will discuss book seven of the epic poem, Sita's second test of purity, during which she is again ostracized to the forest, this time when pregnant and alone. 
• HW: Read everyone's paragraphs on Sita's test of purity and the bridge to Lanka. Research and identify one source related to the Ramayana that is interesting and pertinent to students and study, respectively.

Tuesday

• Reading selected readings related to The Ramayana, including a poem, a book review, and a literary analysis comparing the tragic text to the Iliad.
• HW: Finish reading the third handout from class today.  
  

Wednesday

• In class writing assignment: What lesson does The Ramayana have for modern society?"
• Begin researching for interesting, supplemental material to support your in-class essay revision. 

Thursday

• In library to work on paper revision.
• HW: Revise essay. 

Friday

• In library to work on paper revision. 
• HW: typed revision is due Monday. Also have the Lombardo trans. of The Iliad in class on Monday.
