Syllabus for Week of December 2

Monday

  • Today we will continue with the documentary on Greek civilization during the 5th century b.c.e.. We will see Athens struggle to survive against not one, but two major attacks by the Persian Empire--and in so doing, why the ancient Greeks were so fascinated by the Trojan War poems. 
  • HW: finish reading books 13 and 14, and post one question for EACH book on the prior blog posting.

Tuesday

  • Discussion of questions posted on the blog, as well as a small group discussion of chapter two in the Jung text. 
  • HW: Reading book 15 of the Iliad.

Wednesday

  • Discussion of book 15. After, we will sign up for presentations on books 16-24. These will be presented in pairs.
  • HW: Read your assigned book.

Thursday

  • Small group work, in pairs, on the assigned chapters remaining in our reading of Homer's Iliad. 
  • HW: Read the assigned book, and prepare additional questions, both comprehension and interpretive, for your planned discussion. 

Friday

  • Watching a selection of the documentary on Greek Civilization.
  • HW: Reading book sixteen for class on Monday.
