Syllabus for week of August 26

Monday

• Introduction to course through the children's story, "Zero the Hero."
• Write one paragraph that illustrates the lesson of this story.

Tuesday

• Discussion of the story, and reading of responses. Review of course expectations and the academic integrity policy here at New Trier.
• Finish reading The Alchemist. Read the questions on the novel, select two from the back, and two from the front. Read, but do not write answers to, these questions.

Wednesday 

• Meeting in lab 224 for writing of in-class writing.
• Finish reading the article for class.

Thursday

• In class reading of Bill Moyer's introduction to The Power of Myth, the transcript of interviews between him and Joseph Campbell.
• Finish reading the introduction.

Friday

• We will review Joseph Campbell's hero journey, discussing a handout that lists the traits.  We will then begin watching a documentary/interview with Campbell and Moyers.
• Finish reading The Alchemist. Write brief answers to the four questions you have chosen. Due Monday.
