LAST WEEK I continued to meet individually with students to discuss college essays. That will continue this week and next. We also began our unit on Hinduism and a close reading of R.K. Narayan's modern prose rendition of Kamban's version of The Ramayana.

Monday

Short quiz on "Prologue." Small group discussion of the story, using the questions provided. As with last week, during your discussion I will meet individually with students to review first drafts of college essays.
HW: Begin reading part two, "The Wedding," pages 22-middle of 28.

Tuesday

Quiz on chapter one. Short lecture on part one of Ramayana. Small group work on guided questions, and ending with a brief discussion: What is the importance of weddings?
HW: Reading the last part of chapter two, up through and including page 32.

Wednesday

Quiz on chapter two. In class reading of chapter three, "Two Promises Revived."
HW: Read the next eight pages of chapter three, starting from where we left off in class.

Thursday

Continuing with chapter three in class today. What is a promise worth? Reading "The Frog Prince" today in class.
HW: Finish chapter three for class on Tuesday, up through page 61.

Friday

No school today or Monday.
HW: Make sure you have read all of chapter three for Tuesday.
