Week 6 Syllabus, 11/24/15

WE WILL READ SELECTIONS FOR HOMER'S ILIAD  when we return from Thanksgiving break. We'll start with books 1-2, and 5-6. In total, we will read just over half of the 24 books in the Fagles translation. 

Monday

  • Returning the annotations to LWFC. Listening to an author interview about her memories of her family kitchen. Dawn Lerman speaks about her memoir, My Fat Dad, and the connections between the food we eat and the family we have. Reviewing the three processes relating to the psyche. Drafting a paper on Tita.

  • HW: Continue drafting your analysis of Tita. 

Tuesday

  • Who is Tita? Looking at her character through a mythological lens, and a Jungian lens: What do we see? What about her heroic journey is notable? How would we characterize the nature of her inner conflicts? We will also listen to some Thanksgiving memoirs, a podcast that focuses upon food and the upcoming holiday.

  • HW: First draft of the Tita paper is due Monday. 

Wednesday

  • "to Serve Man": Our complex relationship with food. 
  • HW: The Tita paper is due Monday, Have two hard copies with you, in class, on Monday. 

Thursday

  • Thanksgiving Day.

Friday

  • No school for holiday weekend.
