Syllabus for 2/26-3/2
WHAT ESSENTIAL CONFLICT spins in the heart of Achilles? We see him through several lenses: familial, heroic, divine. What would Carl Jung say of the pro/antagonist of Homer's Iliad? This week we will near the end of the epic poem, and will also work through Steven's introductory text as well.
MONDAY
- Reading through book 17, the battle over Patroclus' corpse, together in class.
- Finishing book 17, if needed, and read through book 18, the Gods response to the battle over the Greek hero's corpse. What does the armor of Achilles represent.
TUESDAY
- Reading through Stevens, chapter three. Some of this we began reviewing during second quarter. But we will read through it again today, thinking about how it might apply to Achilles. We will read chapter three, "The stages of life," together in class.
- Finish reading the Stevens chapter, up to and including page 84, tonight for homework.
WEDNESDAY
- Returning to Homer's Iliad, reading chapter 19 together. Subsequently, we will return to Stevens, "Psychological types," chapter four.
