African-American Poems
We looked at the following poems in class. The first two, I explicated as a sample. The subsequent two, you analyized individually and in research groups, respectively:
"If We Must Die" by Claude McKay
"Beaumont to Detroit: 1943" by Langston Hughes
"Old Black Men" by Georgia Douglas Johnson
"Her Lips Are Copper Wire" by Jean Toomer
Finally, for homework I want you to read "kitchenette building" by Gwendolyn Brooks, and after explicating what you notice in the poem, write a short paragraph about your interpretation of the poem.
