Week 5 Syllabus, 11/16/15
STAR WARS IS THE ICONIC film that George Lucas write and directed using Campbell's monomyth as a guide. Thus, it is an exemplar for mythology and cinematography students alike. We'll be watching the film and then discussing Luke's hero journey. You will also receive your LWFC annotations grades and begin your paper on Tita.
Monday
Part two of Star Wars. We will see Ben Kenobi, Luke and the Droids escape from Mos Eisley, and then watch them enter the veritable belly of the whale, the Death Star.
HW: No homework.
Tuesday
Part three of Star Wars. We'll watch the rescue of Princess Leia, the escape from the trash compacter, the death of Obi Wan Kenobi, and start of the assault on the Death Star.
HW: Read the first half of chapter two of the Beginner's Guide to Jungian Psychology, "the Psyche."
Wednesday
- Today we will finish Star Wars. We will also have a great books method of discussion, starting with this question: What is Luke's essential conflict(s)? We will talk about the film's hero journey, as well as the Jungian archetypes you see.
- HW: Finish the second half of the chapter on 'The Psyche."
Thursday
- Discussion on Tita from LWFC. What do we think of her hero journey? What are the Jungian archetypes that we see in Esquivel's novel?
- HW: Outline a first draft of an essay on Tita. Outlines are due Monday.
Friday
- No school for professional development day.
