Syllabus for 10/16-20

LAST WEEK: We've finished our revision of the college essay, and our reading of The Alchemist. We've also spent more time analyzing the novel in the context of Campbell's monomyth. Now that we've been in the computer lab for four days, we are now ready to discuss our first drafts of essays on the novel. 

    Monday

    • In lab 377-N to begin drafting the Alchemist essay. 

    • HW: No homework. 

    Tuesday

    • Continuing our work on The Alchemist essay, wherein students choose ONE lesson or aphorism from the novel and connect it with their personal life experience. Essays should be 1-2 pages in length, and are due tomorrow. 

    • Hw: Aforementioned essay is due Wednesday. Please print the essay single sided, if possible. 

    Wednesday

    • Collecting and scanning the essays. Students will read their work aloud, and we will discuss stylistic revisions. Revisions are due one week after it is read in class, students are responsible for keeping track of due dates. 

    • HW: Read pages 27-38 in the following handout on Hinduism (approximately the first half of the reading).

    Thursday

    • Continuing with reading of essays. 
    • HW: Read the second part of the handout on Hinduism (see link above).

    Friday

    • Third, and possibly final day of reading essays. 
    • HW: Watch and keep notes on this documentary on Hinduism. I will collect notes on Monday. It is 45 minutes in length, and will require some detailed note taking. You can view it via this link.
