Syllabus for 5/7-11
NOW WE ARE FINISHED WITH DREAM journals and The Life of Pi, we will move fully into Haddawy's Arabian Nights and our next text, Sindbad and Other Tales. We will start our reading with a selection from Haddawy's first translation, the story of King Shahrayar and Shahrazad, His Vizier's Daughter and the foundation of the frame narrative we're studying. In total, that section covers 80 pages, and besides being an outstanding tale of moral instruction, also provides readers with a foundation in how the tales function.
