Syllabus for April 7

Monday

• In class review of Invisible Man, chapter sixteen. Questions and lecture answers. If for some reason you have not caught up to chapter seventeen in IM, please do so. Also, I have collected a first draft of your essay. That needs to be in my hands, at the absolute latest, tomorrow morning. 
• HW: Read up through and including page 367 in IM, chapter 17, for class tomorrow. 

Tuesday

• Small group work on chapters 15 and 16 (in lieu of a pop-quiz this week).
• HW: Finish reading chapter 17, up though page 382, for class on Wednesday. 

Wednesday

• Selected scenes from To Kill a Mockingbird, the sexualization of the African-American male figure. 
• HW: Read chapter 18 of IM, up through page 408.

Thursday

• Reading selections from "Invisible Community: Ralph Ellison's vision of a multiracial ideal democracy" by Gregory Stephens. 
• HW: Read chapter 19 of IM, up through page 422.

Friday

• Reading selections from Sambo: The Rise and Demise of an American Jester.
• HW: Read up to page 438 for class on Monday (what happens with Brother Clifton).
