Today your small group should will read/hear poems by Native American poets. They are:

"The Exaggeration of Despair," by Sherman Alexie
"A New Story: Stories, Yes They Are Our Lives," by Simon Ortiz (poem starts at minute 8:30)
Andrian C. Lewis' selections from Savage Sunsets

After reading/listening to these poems, discuss the arguments each of the three poems make--what claim, what reasons, which evidence--does the poet provide?

In your notebooks, write a short paragraph that describes the claim, reasons, and evidence in each poem. So you are writing three paragraphs total. Each person should have their own paragraphs. The group is to write each paragraph together--no dividing up the poems!
