Syllabus for week of October 7

Monday

• Collect college essays. We will then discuss "the Magical Adventures of Krishna," the story we read in class on Friday. What can we learn about people of the Hindu faith from this story? What do we learn about the Gods? The world view?
• HW: Finish reading chapter one of The Ramayana, "Rama's Initiation."

Tuesday

• Discussion on chapter one. 
• HW: Comparative essay due Wednesday. (Campbell's monomyth and film of your choice). Rather than dwell on the obvious connections, explore the most interesting, least noticed connection between the two, and say more about that. 1-2 pages. No staples, no back to back printing. Make sure your name is typed in the top right hand corner, and that you have a title. Also read chapter two, "The Wedding"
  

Wednesday

• Discussion of chapter two. 
• HW: Read chapter three, "Two Promises Revived."

Thursday

• Discussion of chapter three.
• HW: Read chapters four and five, "Encounters in Exile" and "The Grand Tormentor" for Monday.

Friday

• No school for Columbus Day weekend. 
• HW: Develop a word list for a crossword on the epic poem...proper nouns excluded!
