Syllabus for Week of February 24
Monday
- Reviewing four more essays. Remember, you have four calendar days to revise your essay. Those who read on Wednesday will have their essays due on Monday.
- HW: Revising your essay. You should have read up to and including chapter seven. Your teacher essay is due tomorrow (those who turned it in today will get extra credit, and those who turn it tomorrow get the opportunity to receive full credit).
Tuesday
- Discussion day! I will distribute question sheets, and then students will run a discussion of the text. We will sit in the center of the room, in a smaller circle, so that everyone feels more comfortable participating in the discussion. How does Pi define himself? How does his teacher shape his world view? What evidence do we see for this world view prior to chapter seven?
- HW: Who is Pi? Begin note-taking for your analytical notebook. Read chapters 8 in Life of Pi.
Wednesday
- Continuing our discussion of Pi. What do we think of this young man? Afterwords, we will listen to chapter eight, wherein Pi gets a visceral zoological lesson in human-animal relationships.
- HW: Read chapters Read chapter 9 and 10 in Life of Pi. .
Thursday
- Today we will listen to students reading aloud from their essays, discuss strengths and weaknesses, and take stylistic notes for a revision.
- HW: Read chapters Read chapters 11-17.
Friday
- Finish students' LWFC and Today's Special essays. Time permitting, we will have a discussion on Life of Pi.
- HW: Read chapters 18-28
