Week 3 Syllabus, 11/2/15
THIS WEEK WE START REVISING THE RAMAYANA ESSAY AND also start writing about Tita. With what does Tita struggle? How does she handle these life-long conflicts? What can we say about her as a person, as she endeavors to become whole via Jung's process of individuation?
Monday
Continuing with reading of Ramayana essays. Discussing which indefinite personal pronouns to avoid, body paragraph structure in argument, how to set up your quotes, and how to avoid excessive plot summary. I will also briefly talk about how to develop a more detailed claim, and better reasons overall.
HW: Complete the study guide for chapters 7-8 tonight, due tomorrow.
Tuesday
- Continuing with reading of Ramayana essays.
- HW: Complete the study guide for chapter nine, due tomorrow.
Wednesday
- Continuing with reading of Ramayana essays.
- HW: Read chapter two of the Jung text for class on Friday.
Thursday
- Last day of Ramayana essays.
- HW: Re-read chapter two of the Jung text. Develop thoughtful, insightful questions about the reading for class. You must come to class with these already written in your text.
Friday
- Discussion of Jung's individuation process, as it relates to Tita.
- HW: Finish reading Like Water for Chocolate over the weekend.
