Syllabus for March 2, 2015
WE ARE RESCUING PI this week. Last week we watched selections from Shackleton's journey to Antartica on The Endurance, finished reading chapter three from our short introduction to Jung, and also began a crossword on the novel Life of Pi. This week, we will review the last part of the novel, and see Pi return to land.
Monday
- Review packet for the novel. Students will break into small groups and begin reviewing questions for first part of class. Second part of class, we will discuss this question: How is Pi's experience at sea one of divine inspiration?
- HW: Continue working on review questions.
Tuesday
- Class will not meet because of Senior Seminar Day.
- HW: Continue working on review questions.
Wednesday
- Watching the third and final part of the Jung documentary, "Wisdom of the Dream."
- HW: Finish watching the documentary. I will collect notes in class on Thursday. The link to the video is here.
Thursday
- Collecting notes and discussing the documentary from yesterday. We will also talk about this question: How is Pi's experience at sea a divine trial (or test of his faith in God)?
- HW: Our next text will be Arabian Nights II. This book has recently been reissued under a new title. Check with me to make sure you have the correct edition.
Friday
- In class essay on Life of Pi. You will leave class a) with your essay finished, and b) without your copy of the novel (because you will have turned it in).
- HW: No homework for the weekend. We are starting a new work on Monday.
